## Title: Pharmacy Technician - Hospital
Key Responsibilities
Processing Prescriptions
- Receive and review written, electronic, or refill prescription requests
- Enter patient information, prescription details, and insurance data accurately into the pharmacy computer system
- Verify that all required information is present and complete before referring to the pharmacist for final review
Preparing and Dispensing Medication
- Select the correct medication, count tablets, measure liquids, or weigh powders as required by the prescription
- Package and label medications with the patient's name, drug name, dosage instructions, and other cautionary information
- Assist the pharmacist in preparing compounded medications (sterile and non-sterile)
Customer Service and Patient Interaction
- Greet customers in person and answer phone calls
- Answer routine questions and refer clinical, drug-related, or medical inquiries to the pharmacist
- Provide information to patients on how to use their medication, dosage, and potential side effects (under the pharmacist's direction)
- Handle cash registers, process transactions, and manage patient payments
Inventory and Supply Management
- Monitor and maintain adequate pharmaceutical stock levels
- Place and expedite orders for medications and supplies
- Check for and remove outdated or expired drugs from inventory
- Organize and stock shelves and ensure proper storage conditions for all medicines
Administrative and Regulatory Compliance
- Process insurance claims, resolve basic claim rejections, and manage billing procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records and file documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality in accordance with applicable regulations
- Assist in audits and comply with all security measures, quality standards, and pharmacy laws and regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
