Key Responsibilities

Processing Prescriptions

• Receive and review written, electronic, or refill prescription requests
• Enter patient information, prescription details, and insurance data accurately into the pharmacy computer system
• Verify that all required information is present and complete before referring to the pharmacist for final review

Preparing and Dispensing Medication

• Select the correct medication, count tablets, measure liquids, or weigh powders as required by the prescription
• Package and label medications with the patient's name, drug name, dosage instructions, and other cautionary information
• Assist the pharmacist in preparing compounded medications (sterile and non-sterile)

Customer Service and Patient Interaction

• Greet customers in person and answer phone calls
• Answer routine questions and refer clinical, drug-related, or medical inquiries to the pharmacist
• Provide information to patients on how to use their medication, dosage, and potential side effects (under the pharmacist's direction)
• Handle cash registers, process transactions, and manage patient payments

Inventory and Supply Management

• Monitor and maintain adequate pharmaceutical stock levels
• Place and expedite orders for medications and supplies
• Check for and remove outdated or expired drugs from inventory
• Organize and stock shelves and ensure proper storage conditions for all medicines

Administrative and Regulatory Compliance

• Process insurance claims, resolve basic claim rejections, and manage billing procedures
• Maintain accurate patient records and file documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality in accordance with applicable regulations
• Assist in audits and comply with all security measures, quality standards, and pharmacy laws and regulations
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
