## Title: Peri-Operative Nurse
Role Overview
The Peri-Operative Nurse provides critical clinical support throughout the surgical patient journey, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery. This role requires advanced clinical skills, the ability to make quick decisions under pressure, and readiness to deliver life-saving interventions in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support & Execution
- Assist in preparing patients for surgical procedures, ensuring required documentation and consent forms are available
- Support senior nurses in setting up the operating theatre according to procedure requirements
- Assist with positioning patients safely for surgical procedures
- Provide basic intraoperative nursing support under supervision
- Support postoperative patient transfer to the recovery unit
Quality Control & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control guidelines
- Assist in conducting preoperative checks of instruments and equipment
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and theatre protocols
- Participate in routine quality improvement activities as assigned
Safety Management
- Follow established surgical safety checklist procedures under supervision
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of sharps and medical waste
- Immediately report safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to senior staff
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with patients to provide reassurance and basic peri-operative instructions
- Support coordination between theatre staff and recovery room personnel
- Report changes in patient condition promptly to the supervising nurse
- Maintain professional communication within the surgical team
Problem Identification & Escalation
- Observe and report any abnormalities in patient condition
- Escalate clinical concerns or equipment issues to senior nurses or surgeons
- Support resolution of identified issues
