## Title: Peri-Operative Nurse

Role Overview

The Peri-Operative Nurse provides critical clinical support throughout the surgical patient journey, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery. This role requires advanced clinical skills, the ability to make quick decisions under pressure, and readiness to deliver life-saving interventions in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Execution

  • Assist in preparing patients for surgical procedures, ensuring required documentation and consent forms are available
  • Support senior nurses in setting up the operating theatre according to procedure requirements
  • Assist with positioning patients safely for surgical procedures
  • Provide basic intraoperative nursing support under supervision
  • Support postoperative patient transfer to the recovery unit

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control guidelines
  • Assist in conducting preoperative checks of instruments and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and theatre protocols
  • Participate in routine quality improvement activities as assigned

Safety Management

  • Follow established surgical safety checklist procedures under supervision
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of sharps and medical waste
  • Immediately report safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to senior staff

Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with patients to provide reassurance and basic peri-operative instructions
  • Support coordination between theatre staff and recovery room personnel
  • Report changes in patient condition promptly to the supervising nurse
  • Maintain professional communication within the surgical team

Problem Identification & Escalation

  • Observe and report any abnormalities in patient condition
  • Escalate clinical concerns or equipment issues to senior nurses or surgeons
  • Support resolution of identified issues
