Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated professional to assist in implementing nutrition programs within a humanitarian setting. You will work closely with Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs) and under the supervision of a Nutrition Officer to ensure that nutrition interventions are effectively integrated into broader health and food security initiatives. The primary focus will be on addressing malnutrition, promoting healthy eating habits, and supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, in accessing essential nutrients.
Position Details
- Duration: 6 Months (Extendable)
- Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct advocacy visits and awareness creation activities, engaging community stakeholders on nutrition project activities to ensure community acceptance and participation
- Monitor and supervise CNMs to ensure activities are being carried out on site effectively
- Plan and organize nutrition activities at designated Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) sites in liaison with the Nutrition Officer and other program staff
- Conduct regular focus group discussions with beneficiaries to assess barriers to optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) uptake
- Organize and participate in food demonstration sessions periodically
- Support field-level technical assessments and plan and organize community-led supplementary programs in project locations in liaison with the Nutrition Officer/Manager
- Conduct extensive routine integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) screening using mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) tape and bilateral pitting edema detection, operating under established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and CMAM component principles
- Support targeting of beneficiaries; formation and establishment of Mother Care groups; selection of community volunteers and members of community structures
- Work closely with care group promoters and lead mothers to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed upon, and to facilitate appropriate referrals to and from the community to MAM sites
