Job Summary
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on site by monitoring compliance with safety regulations, conducting daily safety briefings, and enforcing HSE policies. This role involves identifying and reporting hazards, supporting incident investigations, ensuring emergency preparedness, and acting as a liaison between workers, visitors, and the HSE team to foster a culture of safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor site safety compliance daily, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and briefings on site-specific hazards
- Enforce HSE policies and site rules among workers and subcontractors
- Report unsafe acts and conditions immediately to the HSE Officer or Site Supervisor
- Assist during emergency evacuations and drills, guiding workers to assembly points
- Inspect work areas regularly to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Support incident and near-miss reporting and assist in preliminary investigations
- Ensure first aid kits and fire extinguishers are in place and accessible on site
- Remind workers to maintain good housekeeping practices (e.g., clear walkways, proper material stacking)
- Act as the liaison between workers and the HSE Officer for safety concerns
- Ensure visitors and new workers receive site safety inductions before entry
- Observe high-risk activities (e.g., working at heights, confined spaces) and stop unsafe operations if immediate danger is observed
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- HND or B.Sc. in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
Experience
- 1–3 years of relevant HSE supervision experience, preferably within the construction industry
Professional Certification
- NEBOSH, ISPON, or IOSH certification (required)
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards (advantageous)
