Greenhouse Manager at Tomato Jos

Role Mission

To ensure that greenhouse seedling production and all associated activities are conducted and managed with a focus on efficiency, quality, consistency, and sound business practices.

Role Goals

• Manage day-to-day operations of the greenhouse
• Ensure timely and efficient seeding of required quantities of tomato seedlings for all company fields throughout the season
• Maintain continued utilization of all greenhouse facilities by planting tomatoes and other selected vegetables during non-seeding periods

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain proper environmental conditions required for optimal plant and seedling growth in support of field operations, research, and instructional programs
• Inspect greenhouse plants for diseases and insects; supervise and execute the application of sprays and chemicals to combat weeds, insects, and diseases
• Collaborate with the Farm Operations Manager to determine types and quantities of vegetable plants to be grown based on budgets, projected sales volumes, and organizational directives
• Develop the greenhouse into a revenue-generating unit by strategically planning and cultivating marketable vegetable crops during off-seeding seasons
• Maintain comprehensive inventory records of all greenhouse items and materials signed out from the warehouse
• Provide detailed reports on inputs, labor costs, stand counts, seeded trays, and distributed trays to the Farm Operations Manager following each seeding operation
• Direct repair and preventative maintenance of the greenhouse, auxiliary facilities, and equipment
• Set up and maintain all drip irrigation systems within and around the greenhouse
• Oversee and actively participate in all greenhouse procedures including planting, irrigation, pruning, weeding, fumigation, integrated pest management (IPM), fertilizing, and related activities
