Auto Mechanic (Cars, Pickups, etc.)

Position Overview

The Auto Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure optimal performance and safety. Working within the automotive department, the mechanic uses technical expertise, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer specifications to deliver high-quality repair and maintenance services.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, and fluid checks
• Diagnose problems using computerized diagnostic equipment and manual testing methods
• Repair or replace defective parts, including engines, transmissions, suspension systems, steering systems, and exhaust components
• Test vehicles after repairs to ensure proper operation and safety standards are met
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and labor performed
• Follow manufacturer guidelines, safety standards, and departmental procedures
• Communicate clearly with service advisors or supervisors regarding repair needs and timelines
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations

Required Qualifications

• OND, SSCE, Trade test, or certificate of apprenticeship
• Proven experience as an auto mechanic or automotive technician
• Strong knowledge of vehicle systems and automotive repair techniques
• Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment
