Position Summary
The Sonographer will perform a variety of high-quality abdominal, vascular, and small parts ultrasound procedures to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of digestive tract and related organ conditions. This role requires technical expertise, a strong understanding of digestive anatomy and pathology, and excellent communication skills to ensure optimal patient care and diagnostic accuracy. Key Responsibilities
Clinical and Technical
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound examinations, primarily focusing on the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and abdominal vasculature, according to established protocols
- Operate and maintain complex ultrasound equipment, ensuring image quality and data integrity
- Customize scan parameters and techniques based on the patient's condition, body habitus, and the specific diagnostic question from the referring physician
- Accurately measure, calculate, and document findings (e.g., gallstones, masses, fluid collections, Doppler flow measurements) and present preliminary findings to the supervising physician
- Maintain sterile techniques and ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Patient Care and Safety
- Review patient histories, previous scans, and physician orders to ensure the appropriate exam is performed
- Educate patients on the procedure, answer questions, and provide emotional support to ensure comfort and cooperation
- Monitor patient vital signs and condition during the procedure, responding appropriately to adverse reactions or distress
- Adhere strictly to all patient safety, privacy, and infection control policies
Administrative and Quality
- Complete all necessary documentation, including worksheets, patient records, and billing information, accurately and promptly in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists and clinical team members to ensure quality patient outcomes
