Job description

An established company is recruiting for the following position. Position Overview: The Senior Accountant will oversee the company’s core accounting functions, strengthen financial controls, and support management with accurate financial reporting. The role includes managing operational accounting for mining activities, monitoring costs, supervising junior accounting staff, ensuring statutory compliance, and supporting strategic financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Nigerian GAAP/IFRS.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly documented.
  • Review accounts receivable and payable, perform reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and provide financial insights for operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support both internal and external audits by providing required schedules and explanations.
  • Review journal entries prepared by junior accountants to ensure adherence to company policies.
Operational & Cost Management
  • Monitor operational costs including fuel, maintenance, fleet-related expenses, and other site-specific expenditures.
  • Oversee inventory, costing, and fixed assets for accuracy, including mining equipment and operational consumables.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support management decisions.
  • Track operational efficiency and recommend cost-saving measures.
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws, accounting standards, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Prepare and file statutory returns (VAT, WHT, PAYE, Pension, etc.) in compliance with regulations.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, promoting accuracy and accountability.
  • Provide training and guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, integrity, and process improvement within the accounting team.
Required Qualifications: and Experience
  • B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
  • Professional accounting certification: ICAN, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent (required).
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in mining, logistics, fleet operations, or multi-location industrial operations.
