Position Overview
An Advanced Security Adviser for a Nigerian oil and gas company develops and implements comprehensive security strategies to protect personnel, assets, and operations from threats including theft, sabotage, and militancy. This role combines strategic security management with tactical threat assessment across onshore and offshore operational sites. The successful candidate will work closely with government security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure safe, uninterrupted operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate, implement, and monitor comprehensive security policies, protocols, and emergency response plans across all oil and gas operational sites (onshore and offshore)
- Conduct in-depth security risk assessments for assets, personnel, and new project sites; develop and execute mitigation strategies, including security audits and vulnerability studies
- Analyze security trends, incidents, and threat intelligence in the Nigerian Niger Delta and surrounding areas to provide actionable advice to management
- Act as the primary liaison with Nigerian security forces (JTF, Police, NSCDC) to facilitate security support and coordination
- Maintain positive relationships with host communities to prevent operational disruptions
- Supervise third-party security providers and guard forces, ensuring compliance with international standards (including the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights) and company policies
- Lead response to security incidents, manage crisis situations, conduct investigations, and prepare detailed security reports
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Social Sciences, or related field
- 10–15 years of corporate security experience within the oil and gas sector
- Significant experience working in high-risk environments
- Exceptional crisis management and intelligence analysis capabilities
