Principal Geochemist at African Industries Group (AIG)

Job Purpose

Generate new regional exploration targets and assess opportunities for the company using geochemical exploration techniques. This role has overall accountability for supporting the generation and execution of exploration projects, coordinating the collection and analysis of soil, stream sediments, rocks, drill core, and drill chips sampling programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure safety, health, and wellbeing of employees and equipment in compliance with legal requirements and company policy
• Lead the development of geochemical sampling protocols, analytical suites, QAQC procedures, and interpretation of geochemical data to understand geological and mineral formation processes
• Supervise all sampling programmes and field operations
• Create global, regional, and local geochemical mineral prospectivity maps for all key mineral commodities of interest to the company
• Compile and analyse geochemical exploration data to inform technical exploration and business development decisions
• Generate new project opportunities from analysis of geochemical technical data and mineral belt reviews
• Drive operational excellence across exploration teams through continuous improvement initiatives and establishment of quality standards
• Identify and apply industry best practices, efficient, and cost-effective mineral exploration targeting techniques

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Professional Geologist designation
• BSc (Hons) in Geology
• MSc degree in Geochemistry or related geoscience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral exploration
• Significant experience in Greenfields exploration
• Field experience with high-value minerals including copper and other base metals; gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals; rare earth and energy minerals
• Strong geoscientific background and technical expertise
