Job Purpose
- To support animal health and product effectiveness through accurate laboratory diagnostics, disease surveillance, post-mortem analysis, and research on livestock diseases.
- The pathologist provides critical insight that drives product development, field solutions, and client advisory services.
- Conduct gross and histopathological examinations on poultry and livestock samples to determine the cause of illness or mortality.
- Perform laboratory tests on tissue, organ, blood, and faecal samples to detect pathogens, toxins, or abnormal conditions.
- Diagnose common and emerging diseases affecting poultry and livestock (e.g., coccidiosis, salmonellosis, NDV, avian influenza, bacterial infections).
- Collaborate with field teams and sales reps to respond to customer complaints or mortality issues with diagnostic insights.
- Recommend treatment plans, biosecurity measures, and disease prevention protocols based on findings.
- Support product evaluation (e.g., feed additives, vaccines, water sanitizers) through in vivo/ex vivo testing and field trials.
- Develop and maintain a database of diagnostic results, trends, and regional disease prevalence.
- Provide technical training to farm managers, customers, and internal staff on disease identification and prevention.
- Prepare timely diagnostic reports and advise clients or sales teams on corrective action.
- Ensure laboratory compliance with biosecurity, ethical handling, and sample disposal regulations.

- Training sessions or technical materials developed
- DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) with specialization or experience in Pathology, Microbiology, or related diagnostic sciences.
- 3–5 years’ experience working in veterinary diagnostics, poultry pathology, or livestock health (commercial/agro-allied setting preferred).
- Proficient in necropsy procedures, microscopy, culture techniques, and laboratory diagnostics.
- Strong knowledge of livestock disease trends in Nigeria and West Africa.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks, and communicate technical findings.
