About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated professional to join our news division as a News Editor. This role offers the chance to shape editorial direction, manage team operations, and ensure our coverage reaches its maximum potential across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Standards & Legal Compliance

• Alert to editorial and legal standards issues
• Ensure NC TV editorial and legal standards are upheld
• Take ownership of the editorial direction of the planning process

Budget & Cost Management

• Project and determine cost information for coverage
• Facilitate the news division operating within budget

Team Leadership & Communication

• Facilitate clear guidance and feedback to the field, including Correspondents, Field Producers, and Technical Crews
• Ensure clear lines of communication are effectively maintained between key stakeholders
• Coordinate closely and build solid relationships across the News Group, including digital/social supervising editors, broadcast EPs, regional, international, and US bureaus
• Ensure coverage needs are met and exceeded

Safety Oversight

• Oversee team safety on deployment in coordination with Directors of Coverage, Senior Director of Futures, and Directors of Security
• Ensure team safety is the first consideration and at the heart of all deployment decisions

Breaking News Response

• Respond quickly and proactively to priorities across the News Group
• Shore up deployments, editorial, and logistics in the aftermath of breaking news in coordination with the Executive Producer, Head of Technical, and Head of Digital
• Ensure a robust operation is in place to execute effectively across all platforms immediately following a breaking news event

Coverage Planning & Execution

• Find ways to make NC TV coverage stand out from competitors
• Identify key storylines and NC TV moments, and showcase them across platforms
• Ensure coverage plans are well-defined with full details outlined in a documented fashion
• Ensure our best coverage is given maximum exposure on all platforms
