## Title: Medical Officer

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Medical Director, the Medical Officer will assist consultants in the day-to-day management of patients under the supervision of the Consultant Family Physician. The Medical Officer will take an active role in overseeing the medical care of patients and the functions performed by medical staff, and may participate directly in care when services are being initially implemented. This role includes assessing and diagnosing needs and developing action plans for individual patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure optimal patient care in adherence to clinical guidelines and St Luke's Hospital quality standards
  • Perform inpatient and outpatient reviews with initial assessment and management
  • Provide necessary documentation on health reports and discharge summaries
  • Liaise with consultants regarding the provision of inpatient and outpatient assessment and care, including diagnoses and medication plans
  • Provide medical cover (routine and emergency) during hours of duty and work in conjunction with other Medical Officers to ensure 24-hour service provision to the hospital
  • Communicate with patients' relatives and caregivers regarding their present state of health and further management
  • Make appropriate entries into patients' notes following ward rounds, patient examinations, communications, or procedures
  • Undertake medical procedures within your level of experience and competence as required by senior colleagues

Qualifications & Requirements

  • M.B.B.S or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in general medicine
  • Primary qualification in Family Medicine (added advantage)
  • Certification and practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria
  • NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter
  • Proficiency with computer use
  • Excellent problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
