Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in the humanities, developing students' knowledge of history and geography, critical thinking, and understanding of past events, while fostering curiosity, engagement, and a lifelong love of learning. The role also involves contributing to curriculum development, mentoring best practices, and supporting the wider academic vision of the school.
Overview of the Role
The Humanities Teacher is responsible for teaching geography and/or history to students across various age ranges and abilities, promoting subject literacy, analytical skills, and global awareness. The role requires initiative, collaboration, and innovation, with opportunities to contribute to whole-school development and cross-departmental projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons: Design and implement well-structured, engaging, and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and abilities
- Assess and monitor student progress: Regularly evaluate student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support academic growth
- Curriculum leadership contribution: Actively contribute to reviewing and developing the humanities curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school's vision, examination standards, and innovative practices
- Mentorship and collaboration: Share best practices, mentor colleagues where appropriate, and support cross-departmental and whole-school initiatives
- Extracurricular engagement: Organise and lead humanities clubs, debates, field trips, or enrichment activities that extend learning beyond the classroom
- Create an effective learning environment: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom that promotes inquiry, independence, and critical thinking
- Stakeholder engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and stakeholders to support student progress and well-being
