## Title: EAL Teacher

Job Purpose

To provide specialised English language instruction to pupils for whom English is not their first language, supporting their academic success and integration into the school community.

Role Overview

The EAL Teacher will work closely with pupils, SEN teachers, and parents to deliver tailored language support, promoting linguistic and cultural diversity within the school.

Reporting Structure

The EAL Teacher will report directly to the Key Stage Coordinator. In the absence of the KS Coordinator, the role will report to the Head of School or Deputy Head of School, who will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight.

Key Relationships

The EAL Teacher works closely with:

  • Other classroom teachers
  • Support teachers (SEN)
  • Pupils and their families
  • Parents and guardians
  • External language support services (where required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging EAL lessons to individuals or small groups
  • Develop and implement personalised language learning plans
  • Assess pupil progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Adapt curriculum materials for EAL pupils
  • Provide in-class support and guidance
  • Collaborate with teachers to modify assessments
  • Identify and address language barriers
  • Foster cultural awareness and understanding
  • Regularly update parents on pupil progress
  • Offer guidance to parents on supporting EAL pupils at home
  • Maintain a well-organised and stimulating EAL learning environment
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development
  • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly
