Chief Operating Officer (Mortgage Bank)

About the Role

An established financial institution is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead and oversee all operational functions of the mortgage bank. This is a senior executive position requiring strategic oversight of large-scale banking operations and drive for continuous operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Banking & Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline
• Master's degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) is highly desirable
• Membership of relevant professional bodies such as CIBN, ICAN/ANAN, and other operations or risk certifications are advantageous

Experience Required

• 15–20 years of experience in banking or financial services
• At least 7–10 years in senior management or executive leadership roles, preferably within a mortgage bank or commercial bank
• Strong hands-on experience in mortgage operations, branch management, digital banking, and regulatory compliance

Key Responsibilities & Competencies

• Oversee large-scale banking operations and drive operational efficiency across all departments
• Ensure compliance with CBN, NDIC, FMBN, AML/CFT, KYC, and consumer protection regulations from an operations perspective
• Lead process automation, digital transformation, and operational risk management initiatives
• Manage financial performance and optimize cost-to-income ratios
• Provide strategic leadership and build resilient, high-performing teams
• Manage stakeholder relationships and maintain excellent communication across all levels
