Job Purpose

To develop and manage the Institutional Repository and Special Collection, ensuring efficient administration and access of the University's research output and other indigenous information resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, manage and administer the KeMU digital institutional repository
• Source, receive, assess and upload digital repository content guided by institutional repository policy
• Acquire postgraduate theses and dissertations (soft and hard copies) in collaboration with academic departments and the Director of Postgraduate Studies
• Scan and check proposals and theses for plagiarism to comply with institutional standards and guidelines
• Upload approved documents to the digital institutional repository
• Liaise with the collection development unit to ensure timely processing of print postgraduate theses and dissertations
• Market, promote and prepare online and print brochures, posters and guides to ensure collection utilization by the university community
• Implement the digital institutional repository policy
• Acquire and digitize identified print materials according to IR policy for improved access
• Monitor special collection usage and produce usage statistics
• Manage and maintain equipment and resources to ensure effective user information services
• Train students, teaching and non-teaching staff on accessing and utilizing institutional repository collections
• Participate in user information retrieval skills training programs
• Perform shelving and shelf-reading of information materials to facilitate efficient retrieval
• Participate in new student and staff orientation programs
• Train staff and students on APA referencing style and verify postgraduate student documents for compliance with APA citation and referencing standards
