About the Role
Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) is recruiting a Student Counsellor to provide comprehensive guidance and support services to students and employees. This position plays a vital role in promoting personal development and addressing psycho-social needs within the university community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and counselling services to students and employees
- Promote personal, social, and career development
- Provide appropriate interventions to assist students and employees with psycho-social related problems
- Identify individuals with social, psychological, or health-related problems and assist in obtaining solutions
- Prepare, develop, review, and monitor comprehensive counselling plans
- Analyze feedback from student satisfaction surveys and take appropriate action
- Maintain accurate records of counselling services
- Recommend to University Management students who may require additional assistance
- Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor
Minimum Requirements
- Master's Degree in Counselling and a Degree or Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from a recognized institution
- Minimum six (6) years of experience at the grade of Counsellor or comparable position in a University or public service office
- Completion of a counsellor supervision course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
- Completion of a trainer of facilitation course in Psychological Counselling lasting not less than two (2) weeks
- Completion of a Psychological Debriefing Course lasting not less than one week
- Proficiency in Computer Applications
- Registration with the Kenya Counselling Association (KCA)
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of clients' information
