Security Officer at Islamic Relief

About the Role

The Security Officer is responsible for all aspects of security management, crisis readiness, and preparedness at the duty station. This role serves as an advisor and assists office staff in executing their security responsibilities at the assigned duty station in Nairobi and field offices.

Purpose of the Position

To ensure the safety and security of Islamic Relief Kenya (IRK) staff and operations across all assigned locations through comprehensive security management, risk assessment, and preparedness planning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Security Analysis and Risk Assessment

• Analyse security factors and assess risk levels related to staff safety in Nairobi and field offices, including Wajir, Mandera, Moyale, Malindi, Garissa, and Tana River
• Conduct regular security and risk assessments for all operational areas to proactively identify and mitigate potential threats
• Provide written recommendations to improve physical safety and operational security in line with established IRK security guidelines

Security Coordination and Compliance

• Coordinate all security aspects of operational and programmatic planning across all offices
• Manage contingency responses in coordination with field operations
• Work closely with Field Coordinators and the Human Resources/Admin Manager to ensure compliance with security protocols
• Enable appropriate access to various areas while ensuring staff safety

Contingency Planning and Standard Operating Procedures

• Develop, review, and continuously update contingency and evacuation plans
• Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all IRK offices
• Ensure all plans align with IRK-specific security strategies and operational procedures

Staff Security Training and Awareness

• Provide and coordinate security-related training for staff covering:
  • Radio communication procedures
  • Convoy procedures
  • Security awareness
  • Identification of mines and explosives
  • Emergency response protocols
  • Stress management
  • First aid
  • Identification of security materials
  • Emergency evacuation procedures

Security Reporting and Communication

• Submit weekly security reports and maintain regular communication with relevant stakeholders
