Research Assistant- Taita Taveta

About the Role

The Research Assistant will collect data at the household level under the supervision of Ministry of Health (MOH) and African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD) supervisors. This position is based in Taita Taveta and involves fieldwork, data management, and adherence to research ethics standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend a 2-day training on the data collection tool
• Conduct field data collection and management activities, including obtaining informed consent and ensuring confidentiality
• Participate in daily debrief meetings
• Submit quality data to the ona.io server
• Securely store all collected data according to established procedures
• Complete assigned interviews within set deadlines
• Familiarize themselves with research ethics protocols and requirements
• Report to the immediate supervisor as required and communicate any challenges encountered
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all gathered data
• Execute any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications

• First degree in Social Sciences from a recognized university
• Fluent in English, Swahili, and the local language
• Functional smartphone for data collection purposes
• Extensive experience in quantitative data collection
• Experience with electronic data collection tools (ODK/Kobo Toolbox is essential)
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
