Overview

Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST) seeks an experienced Professor or Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering with expertise in Robotics and Automation. This position involves providing leadership in designing, developing, and implementing teaching and learning programmes at the Institute. The successful candidate will develop and implement research strategies within their area of specialization, mobilize resources, mentor academic staff and students, establish academic-industry collaborations, and champion the dissemination of research outputs and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and lead research partnerships, collaborations, and linkages in robotics and automation at national, regional, and international levels
• Initiate and lead external bids for research funding and consultancies within the area of specialization
• Exercise intellectual and educational leadership within the Institute
• Promote innovative approaches to course design and delivery while ensuring compliance with the Institute's quality framework, educational standards, and regulations
• Identify student learning needs and design appropriate learning outcomes
• Assess student learning activities, examine work, and provide constructive feedback
• Provide academic leadership by fostering a vibrant and productive academic environment
• Develop laboratory manuals aligned with approved curricula in relevant thematic areas
• Supervise student theses, dissertations, internships, and attachments as applicable
• Mentor teaching and research staff and students in the area of specialization
• Champion the dissemination of research outputs and outcomes in areas of research interest
• Collaborate with stakeholders and industry partners in technology transfer and commercialization of innovation
