About the Position

Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for Professor and Associate Professor positions in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Industrial and General Machine Design.

Position Overview

These positions involve providing academic and research leadership within the Institute. Successful candidates will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing teaching and learning programmes; developing and executing research strategies within their area of specialization; mobilizing resources; mentoring academic staff and students; establishing academic-industry collaborations; and championing the dissemination and commercialization of research outputs.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and lead research partnerships, collaborations, and linkages in the area of specialization at national, regional, and international levels
• Initiate and lead external bids for research funding and consultancies within the area of specialization
• Exercise intellectual and educational leadership within the Institute
• Promote the development of innovative approaches to course design and delivery while ensuring compliance with the Institute's quality framework, educational standards, and regulations
• Identify student learning needs and design appropriate learning outcomes
• Assess students' learning activities, conduct examinations, and provide constructive feedback
• Provide academic leadership by fostering a vibrant and productive academic environment
• Develop laboratory manuals aligned with approved curricula in the thematic area
• Supervise students' theses, dissertations, internships, and attachments as applicable
• Mentor teaching and research staff and students in the area of specialization
• Champion dissemination of research outputs and outcomes
• Collaborate with stakeholders and industry partners in technology transfer and commercialization of innovation
