## Title: Mechanical Engineering Technician

About the Role

St. Joseph's Technical Institute, Nyang'oma is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to provide technical support and maintain workshop operations in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support during practical training sessions
  • Operate conventional lathe machines, conventional milling machines, and surface grinding machines
  • Operate CNC lathe and CNC milling machines
  • Install, operate, service, and maintain mechanical equipment
  • Repair and maintain the institution's mechanical systems and equipment
  • Manage workshop inventory by receiving, issuing, and organizing tools and materials
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are observed and enforced; report accidents promptly
  • Create requisitions for consumables to maintain adequate stock levels
  • Prepare and maintain equipment maintenance schedules for departmental approval
  • Track and maintain records of servicing schedules for all workshop equipment and machinery
  • Advise the section head on workshop budgeting requirements
  • Segregate non-functional equipment and machinery to promote workshop safety
  • Provide procurement specifications for workshop equipment purchases
  • Report equipment and machinery breakdowns to the department head for replacement assessment
  • Supervise workshop cleaning to maintain cleanliness and equipment condition
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors

Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Production Option) from a recognized institution or related field
  • Minimum two years of experience, preferably in an educational institution
  • Strong practical skills in mechanical systems, tools, and equipment
