About the Role

A leading law firm with a strong presence in litigation is seeking a motivated and experienced associate to join their growing team in Nairobi. You will work on high-value litigation cases, representing clients across various legal matters and contributing to the firm's litigation department objectives.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents with the appropriate court or tribunal
• Represent clients in legal matters including hearings, motions, and trial proceedings
• Collaborate with advocates and colleagues on high-value litigation cases
• Meet with clients to understand their legal issues, needs, and objectives, and provide tailored advice
• Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, precedents, and case law
• Draft and review legal documents, opinions, and settlement agreements
• Undertake due diligence on litigation matters
• Conduct cross-examination during proceedings
• Manage deadlines and court schedules effectively, ensuring timely filings and appearances
• Correspond and negotiate with opposing counsel to resolve disputes favorably
• Update clients regularly on case status in clear, accessible language
• Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and potential clients
• Manage invoicing, fee collection, and timely payments
• Contribute to the growth and goals of the litigation department
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with an upper 2nd class honors or better from a recognized university
• Minimum two (2) years of post-admission experience in a busy law firm
• Valid practicing certificate
