## Title: Legal Officer

About the Role

A reputable organization seeks a dedicated individual for this legal officer position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the Board, senior management, and departmental heads on complex legal and regulatory matters
  • Provide formal written legal opinions and guidance on the company's business operations
  • Conduct legal and compliance audits to proactively identify risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure rigorous organizational compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize all commercial contracts, agreements, MOUs, and letters
  • Prepare, review, and manage documentation for leases and licenses for tenants, ensuring timely execution and proper filing
  • Support lease negotiations and finalization for new commercial property developments
  • Follow up on tenant-related repairs, obligations, and necessary corrective measures
  • Manage all company litigation and dispute resolution in close liaison with external counsel
  • Coordinate witnesses and documentation to ensure compliance with procedural requirements in legal proceedings
  • Develop effective litigation strategies and oversee alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms
  • Handle comprehensive debt recovery processes, including issuing demand letters, statutory notices, engaging auctioneers, and liaising with relevant authorities
  • Manage all insurance-related claims and disputes in collaboration with insurers
  • Liaise with key government agencies and regulatory bodies and represent the company in correspondence
  • Provide dedicated legal advisory on employment and labour law matters to the HR department, drafting and reviewing related policies and dispute documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.) from a recognized institution
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law (e.g., from Kenya School of Law)
  • Admission to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations
