Healthcare Assistant at Tenwek Hospital

Job Purpose

The Healthcare Assistant supports nurses in the provision of efficient and compassionate delivery of patient care within the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist nurses with basic patient care activities such as bathing and feeding
• Help nurses with patient mobility, including transferring from bed to chair, walking, and repositioning to prevent bedsores
• Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families
• Support nursing staff during patient assessments and treatments
• Assist with wound care procedures, including obtaining dressing packs, cleaning, and disinfecting to minimize infection risk
• Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, tests, and follow-up visits
• Assist with inventory management, including ordering and stocking medical supplies as needed
• Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infection, including disinfection and cleaning procedures
• Clean and disinfect patient rooms, equipment, and common areas
• Set up and clean medical equipment used in patient care and procedures
• Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure clear communication, including translation services when needed
• Relay patient concerns and observations to nursing staff promptly
• Participate in ongoing training and development to stay updated on best practices
• Assist in emergency situations, such as providing supplies and transporting samples to the laboratory
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support overall patient care
