Critical Care Nurse at Tenwek Hospital

Job Purpose

The jobholder is responsible for providing nursing services within the Critical Care unit to ensure patients receive quality care in line with hospital policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients' needs and organize nursing care and medical treatments
• Monitor and record vital signs accurately
• Document all assessments and interventions provided
• Administer medications and fluids while monitoring patient input and output
• Manage enteral feeding via nasogastric tubes and other enteral access
• Perform personal hygiene care including bed baths, oral care, and wound care as needed
• Insert intravenous access and perform catheterization procedures as required
• Implement pressure ulcer prevention through patient repositioning and mobility activities
• Perform nebulization treatments and assist with patient ambulation
• Practice infection prevention and control techniques, including proper handwashing and waste handling
• Maintain a clean, safe, and pleasant work environment in accordance with hospital policy
• Prepare patients for discharge and facilitate their return home
• Communicate patient care information during shift handovers
• Provide health education and counseling to patients, families, and community members
• Maintain awareness of legal implications in nursing practice and ensure compliance with requirements
• Promote effective interpersonal and public relations
• Identify research topics, develop research plans, and conduct surveys as assigned
