Cooperative Advisor Horticulture FFT2 at Agriterra

About the Role

Agriterra is seeking a Cooperative Advisor to provide expert guidance and coordinate advisory initiatives with avocado and potato cooperatives and farmer organisations across Kenya. In this role, you will serve as both advisor and coach, building development trajectories aimed at strengthening cooperatives and farmer organisations while enhancing their resilience to climate shocks and market challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Cooperative Advisory Work

• Guide and empower targeted cooperatives through comprehensive project interventions, from initial development and scoping to in-depth assessments, hands-on training, and strategic advisory support
• Deliver tailored advisory pathways focused on governance excellence, financial sustainability, business growth, and production optimisation
• Support farmer organisations in becoming more competitive within their value chains through economically viable business models
• Empower smallholder members to build resilience against shocks and overcome constraints limiting access to domestic and export markets

Administration & Reporting

• Document progress and monitor implementation effectiveness across all advisory activities
• Analyse setbacks as learning opportunities and translate insights into actionable improvements
• Share breakthrough findings to scale success across the programme
• Manage personal and team responsibilities to meet project milestones

Business Development & Stakeholder Management

• Identify opportunities in operational excellence, project optimisation, and market development
• Translate insights into compelling action plans that drive innovation and growth

Required Qualifications

• Practical field experience in agricultural development or cooperative strengthening
• Strong understanding of value chain dynamics in horticulture or related sectors
• Strong analytical skills with ability to assess opportunities and identify competitive advantages
• Proven experience working with farmer organisations and cooperatives
