Community Development Officer at Farming Systems Kenya

About the Role

The Community Development Officer will undertake key duties and responsibilities focused on community capacity building, sustainable development, and equine husbandry improvement within farming communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide trainings to groups and community-based organizations (CBOs) on group dynamics and animal welfare
• Assess and identify community capacity gaps, needs, and root causes related to equine husbandry, management practices, and socio-economic needs
• Develop and implement interventions to address identified gaps, needs, and root causes in a sustainable manner
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and implement relevant adjustments based on findings
• Explore innovative capacity building methods, tools, and techniques suited to distinct community groupings, demographics, and contexts to promote sustainable behavior change
• Strengthen community-based structures among target equine-owning communities to ensure sustainable project interventions
• Identify gaps in and support value addition to resource and material requirements related to community engagement
• Build community group capacity for effective planning, implementation, and sustainable management of livelihood programs
• Prepare and deliver training content, develop learning capacity building road maps with matched session plans, and conduct monitoring visits to follow up on tool utilization
• Mentor community animal welfare ambassadors
• Participate in meetings and initiatives with stakeholders in animal welfare and livelihoods sectors
• Organize field days and outreach programs for farmers in collaboration with other stakeholders
• Support community-based data collection and monitoring activities

Administrative Duties

• Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
• Manage organizational funds, accounting, and financial reporting in accordance with planned activities
