Chief Financial Officer

About the Role

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Finance Department. This role oversees all financial operations including student accounts, treasury functions, and management accounting. The CFO ensures the timely preparation of accurate financial reports for the Management Board, University Council, and Board of Trustees, while leading the preparation and review of annual budgets. The CFO is accountable for maintaining effective internal controls, overseeing tax compliance, audit management, and financial reporting in line with regulatory and institutional requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the finance and accounting department and manage all sections to ensure timely reporting and efficient service delivery
• Implement sound internal controls to safeguard university assets
• Monitor implementation of the university's revenue collection and credit policies
• Identify and manage financial risks, including fraud prevention
• Monitor the student billing system each semester for correctness and oversee student accounts, tuition billing, collections, payment plans, scholarships, and financial grant administration
• Vet and approve tuition refunds to ensure correctness
• Lead the annual audit by preparing final accounts and audit schedules, and ensuring tax compliance
• Lead other external audits (e.g., tax audits, NSSF audits)
• Ensure integrity of all accounting ledgers through regular analysis of the trial balance
• Lead the preparation, monitoring, and implementation of annual budgets by ensuring timelines are met, departmental budgets are correctly captured, and budget forecasts are reasonable
• Vet and approve supplier payments, cheques, RTGS and EFT payments, and verify correct documentation and tax liability
• Ensure payrolls are accurately processed, reviewed, and compliant with all statutory and regulatory remittance requirements
