About the Role

South Eastern Kenya University is seeking an Assistant ICT Officer to support our Information and Communication Technology operations across multiple critical areas.

Business Applications Responsibilities

• Carry out systems analysis
• Develop and document programming specifications in liaison with users
• Customize and update application systems
• Research new technologies and innovations
• Test developed applications
• Create and maintain working relationships with the ICT Team, Applications users, Business Champions, Contracted Service Providers and Consultants
• Provide training and support to users on various applications

Database Administration Responsibilities

• Perform database server administration and associated daily administrative tasks
• Ensure performance management, integrity and security of databases
• Ensure availability of existing Oracle/SQL Server and other operational databases
• Monitor, tune, and perform change control for operational databases
• Schedule tasks, manage backup jobs, and recovery processes
• Manage alerts and database storage needs
• Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and problem resolution for operational databases
• Document, develop, test and implement database updates
• Design and implement replication solutions for operational databases
• Design, evaluate and test new database applications
• Conduct solution testing to ensure seamless database integration into the current operational environment
• Recommend system enhancements to maximize application efficiency
• Research current technology trends for innovations
• Work with departmental resources to ensure database solutions align with institutional standards and compatibility with hardware, software and peripherals
• Provide second level user support and respond to after-hours database problems
