Assistant Director, Legal Services

Position Overview

The Assistant Director, Legal Services will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, policies, strategies, contractual obligations, codes, standards and procedures. The role includes formulating, reviewing and monitoring statutory and legal policies relating to litigation, prosecution and alternative dispute resolution processes, as well as managing asset protection initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the drawing and vetting of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents and instruments
• Monitor implementation of legal advisories and audit findings
• Monitor the legality of policies, instruments, codes, regulations, rules, guidelines, strategies, processes and procedures
• Coordinate litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) strategies and processes
• Monitor implementation of legal research and survey findings
• Ensure compliance with Constitutional, legal and regulatory requirements
• Monitor the efficacy of conformance and compliance frameworks
• Coordinate negotiation processes
• Coordinate external lawyers' engagement, briefs and debriefs
• Monitor implementation of the contract management system
• Monitor the efficacy of legal accountability structures
• Facilitate Legal Compliance Audits
• Coordinate the enactment and implementation of relevant legislative frameworks
• Classify legal matters for handling under various strategies (court, ADR, tribunal, out-of-court settlement)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree
• Minimum twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years at the Principal Legal Officer level or in a comparable position
