Accountant – Taxation and Costing at Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS)

Position Overview

This position reports to the Chief Accountant and is responsible for accurate organisational tax accounting, costing of products and services, management and compliance with KRA regulations, and management of organisational payroll.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and continually review organisational VAT and Income tax accounting processes in line with applicable Tax Regulations
• Maintain accurate tax sub-ledgers, including VAT, P.A.Y.E, and withholding tax, ensuring alignment with the general ledger and processing tax declarations in the KRA i-Tax System in compliance with existing KRA regulations
• File monthly and annual tax returns in accordance with applicable Tax Regulations
• Maintain organisational payrolls in consultation with the Human Resources and Administration Manager while ensuring compliance with tax and statutory regulations, including timely salary and P.A.Y.E payments
• Conduct import costings while ensuring tax compliance and accurately determining final product costs
• Maintain the organisational Sales Catalogue in consultation with the Business Development and Marketing Manager to support efficient margin recovery and accurate revenue data presentation in i-Tax
• Review services and products costing templates to ensure accurate presentation and compliance with Tax Regulations
• Build and maintain relationships with KRA Relationship Management, external advisors, and auditors, including handling tax disputes
• Provide monthly reconciliation schedules including payroll schedules to the General Ledger and IT2c, VAT3 to the i-Tax Ledger, organisational revenues to VAT3, and purchase ledger to VAT3 returns in i-Tax
• Prepare corresponding audit lead-schedules for both internal and external financial audit processes
• Advise management on taxation law changes and their business impact, including continuous appraisal of organisational systems and compliance
