Job description

## Title: Senior Registrar, Pediatrics

Job Purpose

Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients from birth to young adulthood (21 years of age) regarding their physical, emotional, and social health. Manage acute and chronic diseases, including major complicated illnesses.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertake clinical procedures in Accident and Emergency, Wards, Clinics, and Outpatient Centers
  • Manage initial patient care, assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy
  • Provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with unit policies
  • Make decisions regarding immediate management and further referral of patients
  • Conduct daily ward rounds
  • Enhance evidence-based practice
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional work ethics
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to Senior Registrars in the specialist recognition program and Medical Officers in clinics and wards
  • Facilitate continual medical education sessions
  • Participate in major disaster management
  • Participate in research, develop clinical protocols, and facilitate CME activities
  • Champion continuous quality improvement in clinical practice and service delivery
  • Advocate for patients and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure all standards are met, including quality of care, turnaround times, effective communication, and customer service
  • Participate in on-call duties
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
  • Master of Medicine in Pediatrics or other recognized board-certified equivalent qualification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (APLS) certification
