Senior Library Assistant – DL&ER at Kenya Methodist University (KeMU)

Job Purpose

To manage the digital library and provide electronic information services that enhance the utilization of e-resources by students and staff at Kenya Methodist University.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage access and use of electronic information resources
• Supervise and appraise officers working in the digital library unit
• Oversee the running of audio-visual information resources and services
• Market, promote, and create awareness of electronic, audio-visual, and other electronic databases (such as TEEAL) to the university community
• Monitor all electronic databases daily for accessibility and functionality, institute corrective actions as needed, and maintain detailed reports
• Conduct daily checks on user computers to ensure functionality and promptly address any technical issues
• Prepare lists of available and accessible electronic information resources (e-books, e-journals) for specific academic programmes in accordance with curriculum requirements to facilitate the approval process and enhance selective dissemination of information
• Monitor online information sources, services development, and emerging issues; institute appropriate internal alignment and response mechanisms in consultation with the supervisor
• Lead user information retrieval skills training (one-to-one, group, or point-of-service) and maintain training records
• Provide reprographic information services and maintain usage records for monthly and trimester reports
• Monitor usage of electronic and audio-visual resources and produce usage statistics per trimester
• Liaise with other library units for marketing and publicity of information resources and services
• Assess, consult, and advise on infrastructure needs for electronic and audio-visual units
• Manage and maintain equipment and resources in the digital library unit
