Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement internal audit policies, systems, tools, and procedures
• Develop and facilitate operationalization of risk management strategies and initiatives to mitigate institutional risks
• Develop and implement annual audit plans for the internal audit unit
• Undertake internal audits in accordance with international standards on auditing
• Prepare departmental budgets for submission to the Council Audit Committee for approval
• Investigate suspected fraudulent and corrupt activities
• Formulate and implement appropriate internal control systems
• Facilitate compliance with statutes, regulations, and government guidelines
• Coordinate with external auditors and follow up on implementation of their recommendations
• Monitor and follow up on implementation of internal audit recommendations
• Develop new initiatives aimed at improving internal audit operational efficiencies
• Compile quarterly and special audit reports for submission to the Council Audit Committee
• Supervise, guide, and develop staff within the audit unit
• Conduct post-audit reviews to ensure implementation of corrective action plans
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Council Audit Committee or Principal

Required Qualifications and Competencies

• Minimum three (3) years of experience as an Internal Auditor
• Bachelor's degree in Auditing, Accounting, or Finance
• Certification as Certified Public Accountant (CPA K), ACCA, or equivalent
• Active registration in good standing with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) or Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
• Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution
• Master's degree in a relevant field (preferred)
