Senior Accounts Assistant - Grade VIII at Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MMUST)

Job Purpose

To ensure that all transactions are properly vouched and maintained according to policy, while guaranteeing that books of original entries are accurate.

Key Responsibilities

• Vouch receipts and payments, and review the effectiveness of internal controls
• Verify accuracy of invoices and other payment supporting documents
• Process payments and ensure payment vouchers are properly coded
• Assist the accountant with posting processed payments to the General Ledger (GL)
• Assist in conducting bank reconciliations and other final accounts functions as directed
• Support senior accounts staff with various tasks, including preparing budgets and annual accounts
• Review weekly cash collection schedules and ensure all collections have been banked and reconciled to original source documents
• Post journals and update the imprests register
• Maintain registers for accountable documents and ensure their safe custody
• Prepare routine performance reconciliation schedules and reports
• Contribute to the university's annual budgeting and planning process
• Prepare routine, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for all accounts and outstanding imprests surrendered
• Issue reports for overdue unsurrendered imprests for recovery and follow-up
• Perform any other duties assigned from time to time

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration and CPA Part I; OR
• Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examinations or its recognized equivalent; OR
• Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) with six (6) years of working experience, three (3) of which as Senior Accounts Assistant Grade VII or its equivalent
• Proficiency in relevant computer applications and accounting software
