## Title: Medical Officer

Job Purpose

To provide medical consultations and procedures in the Outpatient department, stabilize emergency cases in the Accident and Emergency and Inpatient departments, and collaborate with consultants in the management of patients across all clinical settings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend to emergencies in the Accident and Emergency and Outpatient departments
  • Provide medical care to patients in the Inpatient department in conjunction with consultants
  • Process direct admissions and admit patients when clinically necessary
  • Participate in mortality and morbidity audits
  • Conduct diagnosis and management according to established protocols
  • Participate in health talks and outreach programs
  • Attend weekly Continuing Medical Education (CME) and other training sessions
  • Contribute to the development of clinical Standard Operating Procedures in coordination with resident consultants
  • Maintain accurate medical records with proper documentation of patient history and procedures performed
  • Counsel patients and relatives on diagnosis and provide bereavement support

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery
  • Current registration with The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • Valid practicing license from The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificates

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Characteristics

  • Strong knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology
  • Computer literacy
  • Familiarity with locally available drugs and their indications
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong customer service skills with empathy toward patients of all ages
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Commitment to staying current with continuous medical and pharmaceutical developments
  • Flexibility to work holidays, nights, and other hours as required by the department
