## Title: General Manager – Empty Container Handling Depot
About the Role
A reputable organization seeks a dedicated individual to lead and manage all operations of an empty container handling depot. This is a strategic leadership position requiring expertise in logistics operations, financial management, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the depot's strategic business plan and annual budget
- Ensure operational plans align with commercial objectives and customer service expectations
- Oversee daily depot operations, including receiving, stacking, inspection, repair, washing, and release of empty containers
- Ensure optimal yard utilization, efficient movement of equipment (reach stackers, forklifts, trucks), and minimized turnaround times
- Coordinate with shipping lines and transporters to meet container allocation and release requirements
- Implement preventive maintenance programs for depot equipment and machinery
- Serve as the primary liaison with shipping lines, logistics companies, and transporters
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting including EDI updates, daily inventory, movements, and maintenance and repair (M&R) estimates
- Prepare and manage the depot budget, cost controls, and financial forecasts
- Monitor revenue streams, rebates, repairs, billing, and operational expenditures
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure the depot complies with all local regulations, environmental standards, and industry requirements
- Oversee Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs, safety audits, toolbox meetings, and incident reporting
- Ensure adherence to labour laws and internal HR policies
Team Management and Development
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, training, and team development
- Promote a positive work culture, team collaboration, and workforce productivity
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in port, depot, or container logistics operations
- At least 3 years in a senior leadership role
- Strong understanding of shipping line requirements, container standards, M&R processes, and equipment operations
- Proven track record of managing large teams and complex logistics environments
