About the Role

Durham International Schools is seeking a Deputy Head of Academics to lead a dynamic and expanding Prep School. This key leadership position is responsible for promoting a vibrant academic culture and ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and academic attainment. The successful applicant will play a critical role in maintaining and demonstrating the School's Ethos, Aims, and Values.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Direction & Leadership

• Manage and oversee the EYFS to Year 6 Prep School curriculum, assessment, and reporting to meet the needs of all students and facilitate successful transition to Senior School
• Develop, implement, and regularly review academic and assessment policies meeting British School Overseas minimum standards
• Work with Senior School staff on the development of school timetables, staffing models, and rooming arrangements that optimize teaching and learning
• Contribute significantly to the School Development Plan in collaboration with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, and Governance and Advisory Board
• Keep the School Leadership Team informed of current research, trends, and issues relevant to Prep School academic planning

Academic Management

• Work closely with Heads of Department and senior staff to ensure effective planning and delivery of outstanding academic curriculum
• Oversee teaching and learning practices and the efficient management of academic departments
• Line manage Prep School Heads of Department, including monitoring of teacher performance and schemes of work
• Deputize for the Headteacher, Prep School, as required
