Consultancy for Instructional Designer: Virtual Learning Academy Courses at African Population And Health Research Center (APHRC)

About the Role

This consultancy position offers a significant opportunity for career growth while contributing to the development of virtual learning courses at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Scope of Work

• Apply globally recognized instructional design principles to translate and digitize eight courses to Portuguese, ensuring designed courses meet learning objectives and course outcomes
• Design effective and interactive assessment strategies that demonstrate required learner competencies
• Provide hands-on support to content authors to address challenges during course material development
• Develop a quality assurance checklist to ensure translated courses meet internationally recognized course design principles and guidelines
• Use wireframes and other design tools to demonstrate key features of each model course for APHRC approval before digital content development
• Author content using tools including Canva, Synthesia, Voice AI (Text to Speech translation), Articulate 360, SCORMs, and other AI tools
• Work interactively with subject matter experts to digitize courses while ensuring required quality standards through weekly review meetings and peer-review processes
• Publish all developed course materials on both VLA Soma's web-based and mobile-based platforms

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
• Proven working experience with Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) and WordPress development
• Demonstrated understanding of instructional design principles and experience designing or digitizing e-learning courses
• Experience using databases in Learning Management Systems, including MySQL and PHP scripting languages
• Strong ability to design interactive assessments and learning activities that effectively measure learner competencies
• Experience with wireframes and other design tools
