Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement internal audit policies, systems, tools, and procedures
• Develop and facilitate operationalization of risk management strategies and initiatives to mitigate risks within the institution
• Develop and implement annual audit plans for the internal audit unit
• Undertake internal audits in accordance with international standards on auditing
• Prepare departmental budgets for submission to the Council Audit Committee for approval
• Conduct investigations on suspected fraudulent and corrupt activities
• Formulate appropriate internal control systems for the institution
• Facilitate compliance with statutes, regulations, and government guidelines
• Assist in coordinating external auditor activities and follow up on implementation of their recommendations
• Monitor implementation of internal audit recommendations
• Develop new initiatives aimed at improving internal audit operational efficiencies
• Compile quarterly and special audit reports for submission to the Council Audit Committee
• Provide supervision, guidance, and development of staff within the unit
• Conduct post-audit reviews to ensure implementation of corrective action plans
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Council Audit Committee or Principal

Required Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of experience as an Internal Auditor
• Bachelor's degree in Auditing, Accounting, or Finance
• Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA K), ACCA, or equivalent
• Valid membership (in good standing) with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) or Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
• Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution
• Master's degree in a relevant discipline (preferred)
