Senior Internal Auditor

About the Organization

Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) is seeking a dedicated Senior Internal Auditor to join its team in Nairobi, Kenya.

Job Purpose

Implement governance, risk management, and internal controls to ensure the Institute complies with statutory regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement fraud investigation and anti-corruption policies, guidelines, strategies, and plans
• Analyse data on financial records, systems, and processes
• Undertake comprehensive audits at the Institute
• Conduct stocktaking assignments, risk assessments, corruption risk assessments, and anti-corruption awareness activities
• Review and evaluate the adequacy of internal controls and system controls, recommending improvements
• Carry out audit checks and identify accounting errors
• Undertake spot-checks and cash surveys
• Conduct audit investigations and follow-ups on implementation of audit recommendations
• Assess compliance with internal policies, tax regulations, and other statutory guidelines
• Implement quality assurance and improvement programmes
• Consolidate primary audit reports and queries on the Institute's financial statements
• Prepare documents for the Risk and Audit Committee
• Carry out compliance tests and monitor audit reports

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
• Certificate in Part II of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination, Part II of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
• Cumulative service period of six years minimum in internal audit or related field
