Job Purpose:
The role exists to ensure patient safety, comfort, and clinical support throughout the imaging process, while facilitating effective collaboration between nursing staff, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patient assessment and preparation: Conduct thorough reviews of patient medical histories, evaluate readiness for radiology procedures, obtain informed consent, and ensure patients are physically and emotionally prepared for imaging or interventional procedures.
- Procedure assistance: Provide direct clinical support to radiologists and technologists during procedures, including administering medications or contrast agents, monitoring patient status, and responding promptly to any changes in condition.
- Post-procedure care: Monitor patients closely for potential complications, deliver appropriate recovery support, and provide clear discharge instructions to promote safe recovery and adherence to follow-up care.
- Clinical safety: Maintain strict compliance with radiation safety protocols, infection control measures, and hospital policies to safeguard both patients and staff.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in hospital systems, ensuring complete and reliable medical records that support continuity of care.
- Collaboration: Work in close partnership with radiologists, physicians, and fellow nursing staff to deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary care that enhances patient outcomes and departmental efficiency.
- Emergency preparedness: Ensure the radiology department is equipped and ready to respond to medical emergencies, including maintaining emergency supplies, practicing rapid response protocols, and participating in hospital-wide drills to guarantee patient safety in critical situations.
NB: Any other duties as may be delegated by the Supervisor from time to time.
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing KRCHN
Professional Qualification
- Updated BLS/ACLS certificate
Membership
- Current annual nurse practice license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
Job Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience post registration by the Nursing Council
