About the Role

This is an entry-level position within the Public Health cadre. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a designated senior officer, providing essential environmental health and public health services.

Requirements for Appointment

• Diploma in Environmental Health or Public Health or equivalent qualification from an accredited examining body
• Registration with the relevant professional body (where applicable)
• Valid practicing license from the relevant professional body (where applicable)
• Proficiency in Computer Applications

Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify environmental health issues and implement corrective measures
• Maintain up-to-date records of services rendered
• Implement vector, vermin, and rodent control measures
• Issue statutory notices as required
• Inspect water sources and ensure testing to verify safe drinking water standards
• Undertake inspections for preventive maintenance of healthcare facilities
• Oversee construction of sanitary facilities
• Collect food samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis
• Initiate and implement public health care programmes
• Implement integrated mosquito control and other public health strategies
• Follow up on proper collection and disposal of solid and liquid waste
• Coordinate fumigation services to ensure quarterly fumigation of halls of residence and other institutional buildings
• Take wastewater samples for testing to determine degree of effluence
• Maintain records on disease outbreaks
• Coordinate outreach programmes
• Prepare and issue certificates of inspection for all buildings within the institution
