Position Overview
This position offers a significant opportunity for career growth and leadership in higher education and research. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction in the design, development, and implementation of teaching and learning programs at the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST). You will develop and implement the Institute's research strategies within your area of specialization while mobilizing resources, mentoring academic staff and students, and establishing academic-industry collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead research partnerships, collaborations, and linkages in mechanical engineering and energy specialization at national, regional, and international levels
- Initiate and lead external bids for research funding and consultancies within your area of specialization
- Exercise sapiential authority and provide intellectual and educational leadership
- Promote the development of innovative approaches to course design and delivery, ensuring compliance with the Institute's quality framework, educational standards, and regulations
- Identify learning needs of students and design appropriate learning outcomes
- Assess students' learning activities, conduct examinations, and provide constructive feedback
- Provide academic leadership by fostering a vibrant and productive academic environment
- Develop laboratory manuals aligned with approved curricula in mechanical engineering and energy
- Supervise students' theses, dissertations, internships, and attachments as applicable
- Mentor teaching and research staff and students in your area of specialization
- Champion the dissemination of research outputs and outcomes in areas of research interest
- Collaborate with stakeholders and industry partners in technology transfer and commercialization of innovation
