Policy and Advocacy Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Policy and Advocacy Manager to support the Executive Director in developing and implementing an effective programme of policy and advocacy for conservation actions. You will focus on priority species, sites, and habitats in alignment with Nature Kenya's strategic plan, fostering ecological sustainability while safeguarding Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and priority landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Executive Director to develop and implement conservation policy and advocacy programmes in line with organizational strategy
• Lead and coordinate campaigns to safeguard endangered KBAs and lobby Government and developers to take protective action
• Promote uptake of Multilateral Environmental Agreements and participate in national and global meetings and processes
• Build the capacity of grassroot organizations working with Nature Kenya to champion site advocacy, education, and awareness efforts
• Disseminate science on species and ecosystems to safeguard ecosystem services and link human wellbeing with conservation and development
• Mainstream KBAs/IBAs and biodiversity into key economic sectors including agriculture, energy, water, and infrastructure
• Analyse policies, legislation, and institutional frameworks at all levels and develop recommendations for key target groups
• Catalyze and influence policies, legislation, and institutional frameworks for ecosystem resilience
• Empower local communities and Site Support Groups to advocate for species and sites conservation
• Promote understanding and acceptance of the importance of a healthy environment to well-functioning production sectors through research, communication, education, and public awareness
• Research, develop, and implement mechanisms to bring together representatives of various sectors to coordinate research and policy outcomes
