Position Overview

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of learners, employees, parents, and visitors using the school swimming pool. This role involves maintaining constant supervision, preventing accidents, responding effectively to emergencies, enforcing pool safety rules, monitoring water quality, supporting swimming lessons and school events, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Pool Supervision and Safety

• Monitor all pool activities to ensure the safety of swimmers at all times
• Enforce pool rules and regulations consistently and professionally
• Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers and immediately respond to distress, accidents, or emergencies
• Administer first aid, CPR, or emergency care as needed
• Conduct safety briefings before swimming sessions for learners and staff

Pool Maintenance and Operations

• Check water quality (pH and chlorine levels) daily and record results
• Inspect and report any safety hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance needs
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pool area, changing rooms, and storage spaces
• Ensure proper use and storage of safety equipment and supplies

Support to Sports and School Programs

• Assist in the supervision of swimming lessons, PE classes, and extracurricular swimming activities
• Provide support during school swimming galas, competitions, and other aquatic events
• Collaborate closely with the Extracurricular Department and Health & Safety teams to maintain a safe swimming environment

Health, Safety and Compliance

• Adhere to all school and national health and safety policies and regulations
• Participate in emergency response drills and professional development training
• Keep accurate and up-to-date records of incidents, maintenance, and attendance logs
