## Title: Legal and Institutional Officer – Natural Resources and Environmental Law
About the Position
The African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is expanding its team and seeking a qualified professional to join the project team. Under the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader, you will work on the "Conserving Aquatic Biodiversity in African Blue Economy" project, focusing on legal, policy, and institutional dimensions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support on legal, policy, and institutional aspects of the project
- Strengthen capacity for effective participation of African stakeholders in Continental and Global Forums on aquatic biodiversity and environmental management
- Support the drafting of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Protocols, and Agreements for regional cooperation on transboundary issues in shared aquatic ecosystems for biodiversity conservation and environmental management
- Build Continental capacity on prioritized Global Instruments relevant to aquatic biodiversity, climate change mitigation, and environmental issues to support informed decision-making on implementation, domestication, or ratification
- Enhance Continental capacity for effective African participation in prioritized Continental and Global Forums to ensure coordinated African positions
- Coordinate and support African Union stakeholder participation in identified Continental and Global Forums related to aquatic biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and environmental management
- Support strengthening of capacity development and implementation of relevant transboundary tools for conservation of aquatic biodiversity and environmental management
- Support enhancement of stakeholder capacity along identified regional value chains for aquatic biodiversity
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Team Leader
Qualifications
Minimum Master's degree in Marine or Ocean Policy, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Sciences
