Legal and Compliance Officer

About the Role

The Legal and Compliance Officer provides technical support for the Legal and Compliance risk management process. This includes identification, assessment, management, monitoring, and reporting on legal and compliance risks and exposures. The role also supports the design and implementation of adequate and effective controls for identified risks across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, identify, and assess new and changed legislation
• Develop a comprehensive compliance universe for all regulations and compliance requirements
• Create Compliance Risk Management Plans (CRMPs) for medium and high-risk rated legislations
• Ensure adequate litigation management including selection, assessment, and reporting of external counsel, and manage provider panel
• Embed contract management process automation and tracking
• Develop, review, and oversee contract management
• Conduct periodic reviews of compliance with regulatory, supervisory, and internal policy requirements
• Assist in developing legal and compliance guidance materials, controls, training resources, and internal procedures manuals
• Support the development and updating of standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines for legal and compliance framework implementation
• Perform quarterly compliance monitoring based on agreed plans covering high-risk legislation
• Monitor trademark registration and renewal
• Assist in timely and quality reporting to stakeholders based on routines and ad-hoc requests

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate

Required Experience

• At least 4 years of legal work experience
• Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous
